Dr. Loosen Dry Riesling 2018
Mosel, Germany; $9.99
I believe many people already know about my extreme love for what the Loosen family is doing in the wine world. I believe his $10 Rieslings are simply the best value you can find. The Dry is a new addition to the store to go alongside their standard Dr.L. All stainless steel fermented and hand harvested fruit from the Mosel in Germany. There is nothing like the steep slopes of slate soil of this region. It has a nice minerality on the midpalate and a zesty acidity. Layers of honeysuckle, peach, Granny Smith apples, and bright lemony citrus. - Sample $1.00
Sterling West Coast Red Blend 2016
California; $5.99 Was $11.99 Save $6
I have great respect for Sterling and think they consistently make solid wines. So when they approached us about this deal I just couldn't say no. More than a 50 year history as an iconic winery of the Calistoga region of northern Napa. This is like a kitchen sink blend of Petite Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Malbec and Petit Verdot aged ten months in a mixture of French and American oak. Lush strawberry and generous cherry flavors lead into silky and smooth tannins. - Sample $1.00
Gota de Arena Tempranillo 2017
Castilla y Leon, Spain; $9.99
I believe some of our tasters have gotten a chance to try this wine since I have been almost forcing it into peoples hands. Out of all of the wines I sampled at distributor holiday shows this was among the most memorable. It was just good and unreal for $10. Made by Gil Family Estates at their Bodegas Tridente property in the Castilla y Leon region northwest of Madrid. This is all hand harvested fruit that they split between stainless steel and oak for a year of aging. It is rich velvety with tons of dense fruit with an explosion of cedar and spice. - Sample $1.00
Michael David Earthquake Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Lodi, California; $21.99 Was $24.99 Save $3
I believe most everyone is familiar with Michael David Winery. Brothers Michael and David are the 5th generation grape growers with their family farm dating back to the 1850s. They have played a major role in transitioning the Lodi region from being just a farming community to being a very respected wine making region. The Earthquake series is the tier up from the Freakshow wines which are some of our best sellers. This series gets its name from great San Francisco earthquake in 1906. The original Zinfandel from this series comes from a vineyard planted around the time of that quake in 1906. These wines are super intense and full bodied. The Cabernet Sauvignon sees about a year in French oak adding a rich note of toasted marshmallows and chocolate mocha. Up front the wine hits with a dense ripe black cherry and blueberry flavor that flows to a rich long finish. - Sample $2.00
