Villa Brici Ribolla Gialla- 2021
Brda, Slovenia
To the east of Italy and south of Austria lies Slovenia, an underrated and perhaps not fully understood, yet perfectly viable, wine growing and producing country. Famous for orange wines (white wines made as if they were red wines by allowing the juice to sit on the skins for a time before racking) and due to the Brda region’s proximity with Friuli where the grape is most known (even though it originated in Greece), this style of wine is made in both countries. Ribolla Gialla, known in Slovenia as Rebula, is a high-acid grape known for its floral scent and medium body that can age and become richer with time. It’s very pretty and I hope you like it as much as I do!

Girasole Vineyards- Mendocino, California
We’re going to taste two wines from this producer, so allow me to introduce them! Girasole is a family owned and operated organic winery with vineyards first planted by the Barras in 1955 in the northern California AVA of Mendocino County. Girasole means sunflower in Italian. Cute!
Chardonnay- 2021
Hand-harvested, destemmed, cold pressed and stabilized, fermented cold at 50 degrees in light oak for 4.5 months. Crusty bread and poached pear lead the taste profile with light vanilla and bright citrus.

Pinot Noir- 2021
Hand-harvested, destemmed, fermented in stainless steel with twice daily pump-overs, delicately pressed and aged in French Oak for 7 months. Fruit-forward with notes of cherry and strawberry on the nose with the body consisting of ripe plum with lush tannins.

Bull by the Horns Cabernet Sauvignon- 2020
Paso Robles, California
Mac Meyers has been expressively crafted wines in California since 2002 and almost immediately started getting crazy press about his wines. Bull by the Horns Cabernet was vinified by an initial 3-5 day cold soak followed by a 10 day fermentation with 2-3 pump-overs a day and was finally aged in 20% new French Oak for 15 months. Notes of black currants and licorice with plum and ripe, dusty tannins.
