Barnard Griffin ‘Rob’s Red’ 2019

Columbia Valley, Washington

Cabernet, Syrah, Petit Sirah, Grenache

Barnard Griffin, if you remember from tastings past, is a family-owned operation in Vancouver, Washington started by Rob Griffin and his wife Deborah Barnard in 1983. Rob, who is the longest practicing winemaker in the state, is still making wine alongside their daughter Meghan and the 2019 vintage marked his 42nd in Washington State. Amazing! This blend was co-vinified and spent 16 months in neutral French oak barrels.

CULT Cabernet 2020

Lodi, California

CULT began a few vintages back when a Napa winery had some extra fruit, a couple buddies and an idea that while their estate label was deadly serious, producing some of St. Helena’s most beautiful wines, it could be cool to do something maybe not so serious… thusly CULT was born. The 2020 vintage is 100% Cabernet and takes us to Lodi where the fruit is plentiful and actually affordable. 15 months is new and neutral French Oak.

Secret Squirrel Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Columbia Valley, Washington\

From Corliss and Tranche, this collaborative Red Mountain and Blue Mountain Estate-fruited Cabernet is huge. All the Walla Walla wineries’ wines are produced with native yeast and extended maturation in concrete and French oak, but the 2017 vintage of Secret Squirrel sees 22 months in new and neutral oak, showing off it’s fine winemaking and beautiful terroir.
