Burnet Ridge began as we know it in 1993 when Chip Emmerich and his friend Steve Dietrich created Burnet Ridge Inc. as a commercial business, but it started much earlier than that. Chip lived in Santa Cruz, California in the seventies and got to taste and learn about beautiful wines, near-perfect growing conditions for grapes and ideal vineyards. So, when he moved back to Cincinnati in 1979, he missed good wine! There wasn’t the commercial landscape for wine that we see today, then. Wines from California may as well have been from Mars! So, Chip took it upon himself to learn how to make the wines he so missed. Trial and error in both winemaking (and I’m sure in grape sourcing) eventually led Chip to tasting his wine with people who were floored to learn that he made it in his garage! This just goes to show what creativity spawns from necessity. May we all have the spark and drive that created and has kept Burnet Ridge a Cincinnati jewel for 30 years!!
