Featured Wines:
Curious White 2020
Castilla-La Mancha, Spain; $9.99
Reserva de la Tierra created the Curious collection of wines to utilize and showcase grape varietals less common in Spain. The white is 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown just south of Madrid. Completely unoaked to retain more freshness. The warmer temperatures of this Central part of Spain ripens the fruit a bit more, so the wine shows more peachy stone fruit and a tropical notes instead of the more common grassy citrus. – Sample $1.00
Guarda Rios Red Blend 2020
Alentejo, Portugal; $9.99
A brand new one for the store, and oh man we liked it. Tempranillo and Syrah blended with a couple of varietals commonly found in port. Aged eight months in large neutral oak barriques to soften and smooth the edges.
“Ripe vine fruits, blackberry, chocolate and vanilla on the nose followed by juicy acidity in the mouth with ripe, supple tannins and notes of black olive, tobacco and garrigue on the palate.” 97pts Decanter… Yes you read that right, 97pts on a $9.99 wine. – Sample $1.50
Bodegas Olarra Cerro Anon Rioja Reserva 2015
Rioja, Spain; $19.99
A typical blend of 90% Tempranillo with equal parts of Mazuelo and Graciano rounding things out. Aged in oak for 20 months, followed by 18 months cellared in bottle. 2015 was excellent year in Rioja and this wine is no exception receiving a 92pt score from both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.
“Ripe berry and cherry aromas meld with earth, chocolate and leather on the nose. The full-bodied palate is energized by lemon and supportive acidity, with flavors of toast, wood grain and tobacco in addition to plum and berry fruit. The finish is long in spice and cocoa flavors.” – Sample $2.00
Ego Bodegas “Infinito” 2016
Jumilla, Spain; $19.99
Infinito is one of the fullest bodied reds from Ego Bodegas. Primarily Monastrell blended with Cabernet and Petit Verdot adding lots of structure, and a little Syrah to smooth things out and add some blue fruit. The wine is aged a year and a half in mainly new American oak barrels. This aging brings a lot of baking spices, offering up that sweet caramel and vanilla note to the finish. Juicy dark fruit with black licorice and balsamic. – Sample $2.00
