Another round of four wines that I think will be brand new for everyone. Including a bone dry Riesling and Hungarian rose that I’d expect are new styles for many. These refreshing starters will be followed by two killer red blends. The first a Piedmont blend of Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo and the second is a dense and rich Syrah based blend from California.

Featured Wines:
1) Kruger Rumpf Trocken Riesling 2020
Nahe, Germany; $17.99
Riesling; nearly a scary, or derogatory term to some wine consumers. Probably one of the most complex and beautiful grapes in the world, but also one of the most misunderstood. This week we are featuring a Trocken (literal translation… “Dry”) from a more than 300year old German family winery. When we say this wine is dry, we mean dry. Like less than 3g/L of sugar dry, less than .5g of Sugar Carbs per serving dry, dryer than most red wine dry… That being said this is an explosion of fruit. Loads of apricot, pear, peach, and green apple. - Sample $1.50
2) Pannonhalmi Foapatsag Tricollis Rose 2020
Transdanubia, Hungary; $9.99
Merlot / Pinot Noir / Cabernet Franc
300year old winery? How about 1000year old winery!? Pannonhalmi Apatsagi Pinceszet directly translated to “Abbey Winery Pannonhalma”. It was originally founded as a monastery by the Benedictine monks in 996. The property was unfortunately taken over by the Communist state following World War II, and the monks weren’t able to revive their wine making traditions on the property until the early 2000s. They now manage more than 100acres of vineyards planted with a number of different Germanic and French varietals.
The blend here produces a very flavorful rose. Lots of juicy red fruit; cherry, raspberry and strawberry from the Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with the Pinot Noir adding acidity and freshness. - Sample $1.00
3) Paolo Scavino Vino Rosso NV
Piedmont, Italy; $13.99
Barbera / Dolcetto / Nebbiolo
A 100year old family winery located in the Barolo region of northern Italy. Currently managed by third generation Enrico Sacvino and his two daughters. The Rosso they produce is a fresh young wine made from their younger vines. Typically a blend of multiple vintages, the year on the bottle actually denotes a bottling lot number. Bright red fruit, and light florals from the Barbera and Dolcetto, with the Nebbiolo adding some structure and depth.
“Black currant, violet and rosemary settle nicely into the succulent texture of this red. Firm and elegant, yet shows intensity and fine length” 92pts Wine Spectator - Sample $1.00
4) Stolpman Para Maria de los Tecolotes Red Blend 2018
Santa Barbara, California; $22.99
Syrah / Petit Verdot
Stolpman is considered one of the most prolific producers of Rhone style wines in the United States. They attribute a lot of their success to their head of day-to-day operation and vineyard manager Maria Solorzano. This blend is a true 50-50 partnership between the Stolpman and Solorzano families, paying homage to “Maria the Night Owl”. 2018 marks the 5th vintage for this wine, and they have received 90+ points from multiple publications nearly every vintage. Mainly Syrah, with the Petit Verdot adding even more body. Plum, boysenberry, and black pepper, with a chocolatey finish. - Sample $2.00
