Round Pond Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Napa Valley, California; $21.99

The Round Pond Estate is a 468acre family farm in Rutherford. The second-generation brother-sister team of Miles and Ryan MacDonnell now own and operate the property. The manage 5acres of gardens, 12acres of olive orchards, and 362acres of vineyards. The Sauvignon Blanc is a bit riper style than you would typically find in a region like New Zealand. This brings more lemon-lime flavors and a little less grapefruit. Gently pressed as whole clusters, undergoing a long cold fermentation in stainless steel, all to retain as much freshness as possible. Lovely hints of melon, lemongrass, jasmine, and green apple compliment that citrus. – Sample $2.00

Rutherford Hill Merlot 2018

Napa Valley, California; $32.99

Just northeast from Round Pond, Rutherford Hill Winery have always believed this part of Napa to resemble the Pomerol region of Bordeaux, driving them to embrace Merlot. Since 1976 they have slowly grown to manage 60acres of estate vineyards in Rutherford, and another 130acres from all throughout Napa Valley.

Kenwood Jack London Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Sonoma, California; $19.99

“Since 1976, Kenwood Vineyards has been the exclusive producer of wines from the historic lava-terraced vineyards of the famous Jack London Ranch, located on the western slope of Sonoma Valley in Glen Ellen, California. Jack London was a pioneer of sustainable farming in Sonoma over 100 years ago and today the estate continues to be sustainably farmed by the same family.”

Simply put, this is one of the best $20 bottles in the store ($30 on Vivino and Wine.com). Aged 30months in a combination of French, American, and Hungarian oak barrels. The resulting Cabernet is silky and soft. Lots of dark fruit, complimented by notes of cloves and peppercorns. – Sample $2.00

Whitehall Lane Tre Leoni Red Blend 2017

Napa Valley, California; $33.99

Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Syrah / Zinfandel

Founded in 1979, and purchased by the Leonardini family in 1993. Three generations of that Leonardini Family (Tre Leoni) had a hand in this proprietary blend. Predominately Cabernet Sauvignon with lesser percentages of Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel. Each grape lot is fermented and aged separately for 18 months before coming together in the final blend. This is a big boy… Full, with dense blackberry and plum. Tons of complexity, hints of leather, cedar, tobacco, mocha, and walnuts.  – Sample $3.00
