Friday Night Flight

Another fun Friday at Country Fresh! We will have Matt Walker back behind the bar this week showcasing some killer selections. Starting with the Au Contraire Russian River Chardonnay which for a long time was a big customer favorite that we unfortunately stopped carrying more than a year ago when the price jumped from $14. 99 up to $19.99. For a limited time they have brought it back down and then some to $12.99. The reds this week will feature two new items to the store. The brand new Oregon Pinot Noir from Coppola and BV’s Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. We are also throwing a killer priced Malbec in the mix to round things out. Come on by and sample the flight for only $5!

Featured Wines:

Au Contraire Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2016

Sonoma, California; $12.99

Au Contraire is the second label of Napa Valley producer Taub Family Vineyards. This label focuses on Sonoma featuring extraordinary vineyards in Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Sonoma Coast. The Russian River Valley is iconic for Chardonnay due to a lower temperature then many of the surrounding areas which helps grapes develop a more balanced acidity. This one sees a balanced use of oak to retain a depth of fruit and that bright acidity.

“While steely in acidity, this wine offers a counterbalance of fleshy pineapple and mango flavors. It finds a balance between both sides of the equation and also shows great integration with the oak.” 90pts Wine Enthusiast - Sample $1.00

Francis Coppola “Diamond Collection” Oregon Pinot Noir 2017

Sonoma, California; $16.99

This is a new release from the famed Sonoma producer Francis Ford Coppola. This is also the first wine they have produced from Oregon fruit. It has a delicate tannin structure and high acidity compared to their California Pinots. It is all fruit up front; cranberry, raspberry, boysenberry and cherry. Some nice depth from a slight herbal note of lavender and the oak shows in the finish with hints of mocha and toasted almonds. - Sample $1.00

Portillo Malbec 2018

Mendoza, Argentina; $6.99 Was $11.99 Save $5!

This one originally came into the store at request of a customer and we thought it was delicious even at $11.99. So when we were approached to bring this in at this discount price we jumped on the opportunity. This is the entry label of Bodegas Salentein in the Uco Valley. Malbec is of course the iconic grape of the region and for good reason. In this region is gets a very good balance of density, acidity and structure. Fresh plum and blackberry with a meatiness and sweet oak. - Sample $0.50

Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Napa Valley, California; $29.99

BV is known for releasing the first “cult” Cabernet with the first release of the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon in 1940! The 2016 vintage was the last vintage that Jeffrey Stambor (Winemaker) produced at BV where he started his career in 1989. At a much more reasonable price compared to the Georges de Latour, their standard Napa Valley Cab is a blend of fruit from Rutherford, Calistoge and St Helena.

“…78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, 4% Touriga Nacional, 3% Malbec and 2% other complementary varietals, aged in French, American and European oak (30% new) for 15 months. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps boldly from the glass with boisterous crème de cassis, blueberry pie and baking spice scents with touches of chocolate box and potpourri. Full, rich and opulent, it has a plush texture and tons of forward, spicy fruit, finishing fruity.” 90pts Wine Advocate - Sample $2.50
