Daisy Pinot Grigio- 2021
Columbia Valley, Washington
Let’s talk about Pinot Gris vs Pinot Grigio. Ok, they’re the same grape. A mutation from Pinot Noir. Ok. Now that being said, where this grape is grown is going to impart a difference in taste, viscosity, smell, well- everything. Italian Pinot Grigios tend to be very dry with high acid and a nutty finish. American Pinot Gris, known most commonly to the Pacific NW, will have more of a soft texture; more aromatic and stone fruit notes. This is a fun trick to play on Somms and well, anyone that’s annoying you with their wine knowledge. ANYWHO! This Pinot Grigio, sustainably produced by the Bieler Family, pulls off the flinty minerality of the Old World, with the floral and fruitiness known to the varietal while produced in the US.

Vigneti del Sole Montepulciano d’Abruzzo- 2021
Abruzzo, Italy
Known for it’s robust flavors and tannins, Montepulciano is the thick-skinned cousin of Sangiovese… and this is why we’re often confused. If you want to have that conversation, let me know! This Montepulciano is fermented and rested in stainless steel before bottling and has the vibrant notes of oregano, cherries, and tobacco.

Lean-Marc Lafont Cote Du Pey Morgon- 2020
Beaujolais, France
From the highest point in the village of the controlee Morgon, this Gamay wine is harvested from 50-year-old vines grown in granite and schist soils. It’s vinified traditionally and aged in stainless steel tanks as well as older foudre barrels giving it both high acid as well as soft tannins that accompany just about any meal. Pair with chicken or delicately season pork or beef. Dang this wine is good.

Cruse Wine Co. Monkey Jacket- 2020
North Coast, California
A youthful blend of Valdiguie, Petite Sirah and old vine Carignon, this is the small winery in Petaluma’s brightest vintage of Monkey Jacket to date; and as it’s their flagship red blend, that’s saying something. Partial carbonic maceration and gentle vinification, allowing the wine to rest in very neutral vessels and letting the grapes do what they do is what gives this wine it’s zip. And I like it a great deal!
