Featured Wines:
Domaine Quintin Coteaux du Giennois Rive Droite 2020
Loire Valley, France; $18.99
100% Sauvignon Blanc produced by the Quintin brothers on their 25 acre vineyard just northeast of Sancerre. They replanted the vineyards in 1991, which had been without vineyards since the late 1800s Phylloxera outbreak. The limestone rich soil shines through with loads of minerality, but is balanced with loads of fruit. No oak, and a long cold fermentation yields an explosion of aromatics. Peach, kiwi, pineapple, and juicy citrus. – Sample $1.50
Block Nine Pinot Noir 2020
California; $14.99
This is the independent wine project of renowned winemaker Larry Levin. Seventeen years as the winemaker for Dry Creek, traveled the globe making wine, and then spent nine years as the Head of Winemaking for Icon Estates, overseeing the production of Franciscan, Mt.Veeder, Robert Mondavi, Estancia, Ravenswood, and Quintessa. The Block Nine Pinot is a blend of fruit from throughout California, aged in mainly neutral French Oak. Violets, black tea, clove, and spice are balanced with notes of bright strawberry and cherry. Soft tannins and a smooth finish. – Sample $1.50
Famiglia Grillo Rosso
Tuscany, Italy; $13.99
Produced by the Cerester family in the heart of Tuscany. The grapes are all organically farmed, and hand picked from select vineyards. It is a blend of 70% Nero d’Avola with 30% Merlot. A rich, silky, and ripe blend. Cherry jam with a hint of smoke through the finish. – Sample $1.00
Casa Marrone Appassimento 2020
Puglia, Italy; $14.99
This may be a revisit for some, but it truly is a killer bottle. It is a unique production where a portion of the grapes used are intentionally raisined on the vines. 30% Montepulciano, 20% Negroamaro, and 20 % Uva di Troia, with the remaining 40 % a field blend of Lambrusco, Sangiovese and Merlot. The Montepulciano adds nice red fruit character while the Negroamaro and Uva di Troia brings more body and structure. The dried fruit does add a lot of intensity and pushes some of the fruit flavors more toward raisins or prunes, but the wine is velvety with tons of complexity and a bit of spice in the finish. – Sample $1.50
