689 Cellars  - Submission Wines

689 Cellars was started in 2008 by friends Curtis McBride and Kent Rasmussen. Curtis came from the marketing and sales side working for Premier Wine Group representing acclaimed labels like Marietta, PlumpJack and Round Pond. Kent Rasmussen on the other hand had spent over twenty five years in the cellars of Mondavi, Chadon, and Stellenbosch. While their 689 label focuses exclusively on Napa Valley, the Submission wines are sourced from all over California.

Featured Wines:

Chardonnay 2020; $16.99

This one made me think of a cast iron baked, pineapple upside down cake. Lots of tropical fruit from the coastal vineyards. Some excellent buttery, nutty, caramelly hints coming from the barrel. Oaked Chardonnay isn’t for everyone, but it’s still one of the best sellers here in the Depot. – Sample $1.50

Pinot Noir 2020; $16.99

All of fruit here comes from cooler coastal vineyards. Balanced ripening, and balanced acidity. Lots of red berries, with hints of lavender and roses. The oak barrels used were almost entirely neutral, allowing for less flavor from the wood, but a nice softening effect as it ages. – Sample $1.00

Red Blend 2019; $16.99

Zinfandel / Grenache / Malbec / Petite Sirah

Sonoma, Mendocino, Napa, Lodi, and Paso Robles all make an appearance here. Aged in French oak for 10 months resulting in a soft, but dry red blend. Lots of black cherry, berries, and spices.  – Sample $1.00

Cabernet Sauvignon 2019; $16.99

The different vineyard sources work together to bring the best of California. Sonoma and Napa bringing depth and complexity, the cooler Mendocino coast adding great acidity, and intense sun of Lodi concentrating the fruit. Aged and then blended with just a splash of Merlot and Petite Verdot.

“Notes of ripe boysenberry, chocolate-covered blueberries and cassis meld effortlessly with rich aromas of seasoned oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied with a soft and velvety texture followed by an undeniable freshness. Juicy layers of dark fruit create a delicate and sensuous finish.” – Sample $2.00
