Featured Wines:
1) Bott Freres Edelzwicker NV (1L Btl)
Alsace, France; $18.99 (Equivalent to $14.25, 750mL Btl)
A perfect white to kick things off on what is expected to be a hot summer day. This is a wine we sampled originally almost a year ago, and decided a tasting would be a perfect place to introduce it. Edelzwicker; literally translating to “Noble Blend” refers to all white wines blends from Alsace made of the six approved grape varietals. This blend from Bott Freres is made of Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc and Gewurztraminer. Super juicy and fruit driven with flavors of white peach, apricot, zesty lime and a bit of spice. - Sample $1.50
2) J. Mourat “Collection” Rose 2020
Loire Valley, France; $16.99
This 65acre estate was established by Jeremie Mourat in 1974. The rose has been one of my favorites the past two summers. A Pinot Noir based blend with touches of Cabernet Franc, Gamay and Negrette adding some unique character. It has at classic French limestone minerality, but with a fruitiness that is just refreshing. Bright red cherries, raspberries and watermelon. - Sample $1.50
3) Casa Marrone Appassimento 2019
Puglia, Italy; $14.99
We have had an Appassimento on one other Friday night tasting and it was a smash hit. This is a unique production where a portion of the grapes used are intentionally raisined on the vines. 30% Montepulciano, 20% Negroamaro, and 20 % Uva di Troia, with the remaining 40 % a field blend of Lambrusco, Sangiovese and Merlot. The Montepulciano adds nice red fruit character while the Negroamaro and Uva di Troia brings more body and structure. The dried fruit does add a lot of intensity and pushes some of the fruit flavors more toward raisins or prunes, but the wine is velvety with tons of complexity and a bit of spice in the finish. - Sample $1.50
4) Subsoil Red Blend 2017
Horse Heaven Hills, Washington; $18.99
Last wine up is a red with some true power. Produced by the iconic Mercer family, Subsoil features grapes from one of the most in demand regions of Washington, Horse Heaven Hills. The blend showcases Merlot and Syrah, which I believe to be the best varietals of Washington. The wine is powerful, dense blueberry and cherry framed with cocoa, coffee and smoky tobacco. A true steak wine! - Sample $1.50
