French Fry(Day) Wine Flight

Well I guess the title for this week is a pun… Even if it is a bad one. I have no idea why I made myself laugh when I wrote the notes up. Anyway I am still super excited to have Un Jin back behind the tasting bar featuring another lineup of some killer French finds. These are perfect wines for fall. A round flavorful white, and reds that are lighter and elegant.

Stop by for a flight for only $5!

Featured Wines:

Ferrandiere Viognier 2017

Languedoc, France; $9.99

The 100 hectares of la Ferrandière, owned first by the Gau family and now the Mas family, are planted in the dried up lake of Marseillette. This old maritime lagoon, between the Corbières and Minervois regions, near Carcassonne, 40km from the Mediterranean Sea, provides a unique soil and climate that allows the growth of ungrafted vines, and gives the grapes a unique acidity and savoriness. Viognier brings a round full bodied character with lots of complex tropical and stone fruit flavors. - $1.00 Sample

Domaine du Clos du Fief “La Roche” Beaujolais-Villages 2017

Beaujolais, France; $17.99

Produced from 50+ year old Gamay vines from Les Cotes de la Roche just west of Julienas in the hamlet of Jullie. Father and Son Michel and Sylvain Tete are the 3rd and 4th generation to managing this tiny 13 hectare estate.

The wine undergoes a semi-carbonic vinification in large upright wooden barrels and then is stored in tank after a natural malolactic fermentation to soften the wines acidity. Floral with layers of pomegranate and raspberry. - $1.50 Sample

La Bernarde “Les Hauts du Luc” Cotes de Provence Rouge 2018

Provence, France; $17.99

This is a total crowd pleasing style that is easy to drink alone or with food. Mainly Syrah to give it a nice rich mouthfeel, but with some added Cabernet Sauvignon for structure and a little Grenache for some bright red fruit. This is a histroic property recently purchased and restored by their neighbor Commanderie de Peyrassol which dates back to the early 1200s. The town of Luc is one of the coolest regions in the Provence allowing for wonderful acidity development and a longer growing season. With such an amazing terroir they try to let the grapes shine with no oak influence. The wine is bursting with cassis, violets, crushed flowers and ripe blackberries.- $1.50 Sample

Chateau Saint Julian Bordeaux Superieur 2015

Bordeaux, France; $14.99

Chateau Saint Julian is the second wine made by the team from the remarkable Grand Cru Chateau La Grangere in St. Emilion. This Ecocert certified organic wine is made from mostly Merlot grown on limestone slopes in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux. All of the grapes are hand harvested and aged in barrique, with about 30% new barrels. This wine is juicy with lots of raspberry, blackcurrant and plum flavors. The little touch of new oak adds a little toastiness and coffee notes through the finish. Age-able, but still drinking very good young. - $2.00 Sample
